What is MUAY THAI ?
Muay Thai is the national sport of
Thailand and is a martial art with originis in the ancient battle
tactics and hand-to-hand tactics of the Thai Army. Time
limits, boxing gloves and a uniform set of rules were introduced in
the early 20th Century. Muay Thai is now practiced by
millions all over the world since it was exported to many countries
in the latter half of the 20th Century. Muay Thai is also
known as "King of the Ring" in
many kickboxing circles, with fights featuring punches, kicks
elbows, knees, standup grappling and head-butts to wear down or
knock out the opponent. This martial arts features training
that develops devastating power, speed and superb cardio-vascular
strength and endurance. This effective sport has proven
itself to be effective outside of the competition ring and it is
practiced for self-defense, sport, military and law
enforcement. There is a belting system in Muay Thai;
however, earning one can be rather challenging. Belts are
typically large and brightly colored, which is why Thai fighters
proudly display them for pictures. In Thailand a
"stadium champion" is considered
similar to a title belt and the most coveted belts are those of the
large Bangkik stadia of Rajdamnern and Lumpinee.
